The absolut theatre company was founded in 1997 and became a registered non-for profit society ( S- 46597) on September 8 2003.
The mandate of the absolut theatre company is:
a) To write, workshop and/or produce original Canadian scripts.
b) To create: educational, political, bizarre environmental theatre in various key locations throughout the Lower Mainland and beyond, so
that we may highlight our Canadian identity.
c) To provide skills and opportunities to women and youth within the industry.
d) To share cross-cultural learning and insight with schools and to the community at large through workshops, discussions and presentations.
All of the work that we do is multi-media/ interdisciplinary.
Siobhan McCarthy is the Founder and Artistic Director of the absolut theatre company. She originally hails
from Toronto where she trained, competed and
toured as a National Precision Figure Skater for
over half her life. She then lived in Europe before ?heading west? and graduating with her Honours Degree in Theatre from U.B.C. in the fall of 1998.
Past Directing credits include: Spiraling Within, Happy Meal, See Bob Run, A Soldier?s Tale, Drunken Bliss!?! Macbeth, Romeo & Juliet, The Comedy of Errors and the award winning Bold Girls. Equity Co-Op?s include W.O.W-wow!!!, and Who Are You Calling Crazy!?! Siobhan also loves to perform. Some acting film and television credits include Animal Miracles, F-Stop, Still Life, A Bug and a Bag of Weed, Last Wedding,
Drunken Bliss, and The Sound of Empties. Favorite
Stage Credits include: Kayla in Spiraling Within, A
Dark Witch in Macbeth, The title role in Claire, Star,
in Five Dollar Drinks and Andrea in Who Are You Calling Crazy!?!
Siobhan is one of the Youth Playwright Mentors at
the Vancouver East Cultural Centre. She is an artist
in residence at Gallery Gachet and she is the
Production Manager of the Vancouver International
Film Festival Trade Forum. Siobhan has been an invited guest speaker/ performer at the World
Madness and Arts Festival in Toronto, Balancing
Acts Festival in Calgary, CMHA, Gallery Gachet,
Alliance for Arts and Culture, University of British Columbia, as well as numerous schools and hospitals. Siobhan is represented by Deborah
Harry Talent.
