Statement:

Mandate
The company came into fruition in Montreal on October 20th in 1992, with the intent of promoting hybrid forms of expressions linked to modern dance or to the problematic of the performance, the motion and the body. Le Corps Indice responds to a need of encouragement in this domain of emerging expressive forms and constantly evolving inquiries.
The mandate of Le Corps Indice is centred upon the creation and diffusion of theoretical research within the realm of electronic arts, relating to performance art. Given that the mandate explores the links between the performing arts and modern technology, we have engaged ourselves to question these hybrid forms and to stimulate research in this field. With the dawn of a new comprehension of the body, dance is being presented to us as an entity most likely to open up a world of new possibilities. Besides the creation and diffusion of works, Le Corps Indice is equally interested in creating opportunities for exchange on an international network and with the help of the written text and electronic mediums, to write new philosophies and critical conceptions.

Isabelle Choinière, artistic director
Choreographer, performer, analyst, and artistic director, Isabelle Choinière explores physical and psychic limits of the natural and the synthetic body. In 1989 she obtained a bachelor’s degree in choreography at Concordia University and it was then that she was introduced to Deborah Hayes’ new dance concepts. Due to the hybrid nature of her art’s evolution, her actual choreographic language took its source in a multitude of movements ranging from a codified vocabulary to new gesture approaches. She integrates various techniques (The Roy Hart Method) and a wider conception of the body, which includes reflection relating to time and space. Acting as both an artist and managing director of the company she founded in 1994, Isabelle has brought Le Corps Indice and its first creation Communion, to an international level.

La Démence des anges
Pursuing the precepts of Communion, our first work, in understanding the relation between performance art and new technology this network performance introduces demiurgic like fantasy : trans-appearancy of object, omnipresence from afar. Electromagnetic telekinesis. From that comes an innovative and unique stage writing where the I and technology answer and stimulate each other at a formal as well as on organic, aesthetic and philosophical levels
