University of Toronto Sustainability Office: Call to Visual Artists,
Deadline Sept. 7
Call For Submissions: NVRNMNT, October 16 - November 7, 2008
Deadline for Proposals
University of Toronto students: September 21st, 2008
Other exhibitors: September 7, 2008
The University of Toronto Sustainability Office, in collaboration with the University of Toronto Art Centre,
will be hosting “NVRNMNT”, an exhibit of environmentally-engaged artwork running from October 16 to
November 7. Submissions are encouraged from students, faculty, staff, alumni, and outside exhibitors in a
wide variety of media.
The title of “NVRNMNT” draws upon conventions of cellular text messaging to emphasize the need for
new methods of communicating ecological responsibility. In keeping with this theme, the show will
examine how artists are currently innovating in their efforts to bring their work and environmental
ideologies to non-environmental audiences. More importantly, the show hopes to further a dialogue
around the various means of encouraging public participation in issues of sustainability.
NVRNMNT will be hosted over two sites on the University of Toronto campus:
The new office space of the Sustainability Office in the South Borden building will display work by faculty,
staff, alumni, and outside exhibitors.
The University of Toronto Art Centre will be showcasing work by current University of Toronto students.
